Decade's First Snow

We were supposed to go on a field trip yesterday, but the threat of snow starting around noon caused us to reschedule for Friday. The snow also created a surprise 2 hour early dismissal. Yay! On my drive home around 1:30pm, I could not help but notice all of the snow sticking to the branches of the trees. They drew me in and I knew I needed to get home to my camera. First I went to the holly bush in my backyard. The red always pops so nicely with freshly fallen snow. But I soon got photo jealousy as I saw friends posting breath-taking pictures of landscapes with the trees and snow. I asked Jonathan if he wanted to join/carry the umbrella to protect my camera at Norlo Park. He agreed to be my camera caddy and off we went - the back way to see all the snow on the fields and trees. I took some new pictures of the caboose and dark grey/blue shed since they are always stunning in the snow. Additionally I took some landscapes and tree portraits before my fingers froze and we returned home.

This morning I was awakened by the wonderful phone call alerting us to a 2 hour delay! Teachers love those, extra sleep, but we still get in a day of school! Then, after I was all ready for school and about to head downstairs to eat some breakfast, we received a second phone call - SNOW DAY! I quickly changed to jeans, determined to be productive today on this gift of a day off of school. As I looked outside, the sun was perfectly filtering through and illuminating the snow, so out I went, camera in hand. I was loving life, until the gusts of wind started and all of the sudden I was covered in the snow that had been beautifully resting on the branches of the tree I was standing under. Some of my favorite shots are from when the snow started falling from the tree!

I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed taking them - though I think you are quite a bit warmer than I was!
